This is a fun tune that I wrote over the chord changes of "It Could Happen To You." The title is a reference both to the style of the tune which mimics the songs of the Great American Songbook and to the all-too-standard scenario of the story. And yes, the first line bears striking resemblance to the last line in "The Christmas Song."
Though it's been said many times, many ways,
The mere appearance of you always makes my day.
Your smile so warm, it makes me want to prance,
to steal a kiss, buy a ring, and do a wedding dance.
Though I dream of this sweet satisfaction,
it takes more than luck to turn emotion into action.
You don't know it yet, but I'm willing to bet
That once you know my name you'll feel the same.
